We did it!
We’ve been building up to this day since the initial DAWN OF DC announcement back in November and ow it’s finally here! UNSTOPPABLE DOOM PATROL is officially on sale this week at all the best comic shops!
Written by me and drawn by Chris Burnham who is doing the absolute best work of his career teamed with colorist, Brian Reber who brings a new lushness to Burnham’s work that you will absolutely love. These two are a dream team and I hope they work together for a very long time. Letters by one of the best in our industry, Pat Brosseau. And all of it brought together by our amazing editor, Ben Abernathy.
I am damn proud of this book. It’s something I’d want to pick up as a reader and lifelong fan of the Doom Patrol. You’re gonna love it!
The book has a bunch of great variant covers for the collector’s market, one of them drawn by your sorta humble writer but the one I’m MOST excited about is the Scratch Off Variant featuring Jane which has five possible outcomes revealing one of her alternate identities.
This character driven variant cover ended up being a super fun collaboration between Burnham, Ben, and myself. If you get one and scratch it off, tag me with who you got on Twitter!
Since we have a new Doom Patrol story out I’m putting the call out for our letter column THE DOOMSCROLL!
If you have questions or comments about the new issue, leave a reply here or use the hashtag #thedoomscroll on Twitter and I’ll answer as many as I can.
Thanks so much for showing up for this book, it’s already had positive results as we’ve added ANOTHER issue to our series making this officially a 7 issue series!
This bonus issue will be issue four and is drawn by guest artist David Lafuente featuring therapy sessions with each member of our team from Dr. Syncho who I mentioned in the last newsletter. Check out this rad cover by Burnham and Reber:
This bonus issue is a great victory but we still need to keep showing up. Issue 2 has a final order cutoff for this Sunday so if you haven’t already put this book on your pull list with your comic shop then please let them know you want this. Our sales performance over these first few issues of the series is what determines if we’ll have another “season” so get the word out!
Thanks so much!
UPCOMING APPEARANCES:
Dennis, Chris, I really enjoyed the first issue. So happy to have my favourite super-team back in their own book again. So many good things in this issue: Cliff, Rita and Larry, of course, but also the Brain, Mallah and Immortus for good measure. Beast Girl is a delight, Jane's new identities are fascinating, and Degenerate is definitely someone I'll have to warm up to. The writing was clever, the story moved at a brisk pace, the art was detailed, and I liked the little details, such as Rita's face when The Chief was criticizing her. I was shocked by the ending, but am not convinced there isn't ANOTHER double-cross coming. I'm looking forward to #2.
That ending blue screened my brain. I had to put the comic down for a minute to just sit there and process what happened. Needless to say, I'm more excited than ever for future issues.
Now that the team's survived Batman, do you have any hints on what other major heroes the team might be butting heads against?
