Welcome to THE DOOM SCROLL, an informal letter column for UNSTOPPABLE DOOM PATROL. This edition we’re taking on questions from our ten page story in LAZARUS PLANET: DARK FATE #1. If you haven’t read it yet, be wary of spoilers ahead! The next one of these will be the Monday following the release of issue one on March 28th. Let your comic shop know you want to put the series on your pull list!
Considering Jane has 64 personalities, how do you choose which one to use? Pull names out of a hat? Use a 64-sided die?
Katherine
Thanks for your question, Katherine! Jane’s metahuman abilities are very situational and all of her alternate identities have their own agency as well. For instance, Flit does have incredible teleportational abilities but she is sensitive about being used like a taxi so the team can’t always rely on her for transport. Also with the Chief identity being the new leader of the team she tends to spend more time in the driver’s seat. The Chief has a lot of influence on bring up different identities as needed but each one decides if they feel like helping or not.
As far as I how I decide who to use and when, well it all comes down to drama : )
Will General Blanche be a recurring character?
Craig MacDonald
We’ll definitely be seeing more of General Blanche, Craig, but the real question is who is the General working with?!
Will the Doom Patrol continue to make and deal with strange situations? I like it when they mess with completely different concepts than usual, I think it adds a lot to the cosmology of the DC universe in general
Hirvil Fogueira
As we start this new series one of the goals is to make it firmly part of the DCU so by design things will start off more grounded until the book gets its footing. But don’t worry, strange situations always find a way into the lives of the Doom Patrol!
How are the Doom Patrol that appeared in the New52 Justice League treated in the current DC Universe? Personally, I am only concerned about Element Woman. I would feel a little pity if she were to be forgotten as she is.
robot_garden28
Those New 52 adventures definitely happened although chronologically they may have happened at a different point thanks to the actions of a naked blue atomic god in other comics. Bottom line is all your Doom Patrol comics count!
As for Element Woman, I do have plans for her (and others!) after our initial 6 issue series so if you want to see those unfold then make sure preorder Unstoppable Doom Patrol 1 with your comic shop before March 5th!
Definitely would like to know if we’ll learn more about what happened after the Way run, especially to characters introduced in the run like Lucius, Lotion, or Fugg
sunglassesEmote
There is a story to tell about what happened between the end of the excellent Gerard Way and Nick Derington (et al!) run on the series. I have a plan for it and it involves the origin of Beast Girl but right now we’ll be focused on the team in the dangerous present of the DCU. And while our series is focused on the core cast seen on the cover of Unstoppable Doom Patrol 1, we’ll still be catching up with other characters too. Look for Lotion and Lucius in issue 2!
No question but absolutely loved the short story. Even more on board for the new run than I already was
ConorNACC
Thanks so much, Conor! I really appreciate the support of all the Doom Patrol readers. Burnham and I have a lot of stories we want to tell with the World’s Strangest Superheroes so make sure you spread the word and have your friends and even enemies order our book. You’ll be guaranteed to turn those enemies into allies in no time at all!
Hey Dennis, I have a question. In Dark Fate short story, You dip your toe a bit into Larry's history with the military. So my question is are we going to see the Doom Patrol Back Story that hasn’t been explored? Great story btw, can't wait for Unstoppable Doom Patrol. Plus another question if you don't mind, The General talked about a deal with Niles Caulder for Larry. Are going to see maybe another confrontation between Doom Patrol and Niles?
OpungZap
Like I said earlier our main focus for this series will be the Doom Patrol in the deadly present of the current DCU but the histories of all these characters are always informing those stories and we’ll definitely explore them as needed. As for Niles, he has a long history of working with the shady parts of the US Government but he is trying to atone for his past and is now working with the current team as a consultant. Begrudgingly because he still believes he should be the one running the team! Look for more Niles in issue 2 and especially issue 4.
You did it! You reached the end of The Doom Scroll and they said it couldn’t be done. I’ll be updating here a little more frequently as we approach final order cutoff for Unstoppable Doom Patrol #1 so expect some cool previews here before anyplace else on social media.

I've been a fan of this team since the 60's, when I had a beat-up copy of #101 of the original series that I reread over and over again. I'm very excited to have them back in their own series again, especially as I enjoyed the preview in Dark Fate. I'm looking forward to see what you and Burnham can do.
Mike
Dear Dennis Culver,
Greetings, I hope this finds you well. I’m really excited for your Doom Patrol comic. Is it possible that Ambush Bug might make some kind of appearance? Thank you so much and I hope you have an excellent day!
Sincerely,
Zach
